What are Independent Restructuring Professionals (IRPs)?

Historically, they were known as company doctors or corporate trouble-shooters. assisting boards and management teams to avoid insolvency.

Typically, IRPs:

> have backgrounds in business as senior executives and board members;

> unexpectedly found their first experience of corporate crises stimulating; and

> remained in rescue, turnaround and restructuring assisting boards and management teams to avoid insolvency.

They offer broad situational experience and are usually sector agnostic.

In the UK, IRPs are contractually engaged by borrowers with the support of financial stakeholders to assist the executives in delivering a restructuring.

Stakeholders value IRPs’ ability to undertake their own assessment and provide an independent view.

IRPs’ scope often encompasses governance, stakeholder and transaction management and operational improvement.
